A simple volume control application. It works in a similar manor to the one in the Mac OS X. It also has fading effects, and the transparency can be adjusted. Only for 2k+ systems.

Audio player which should play about anything and has all the bells and whistles. Notable are crossfader (mixing tracks), on screen mini-controls and track preference playback.

DeliPlayer is a multi format, free audio player for Windows® 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP. It plays all sorts of music, modules and samples with high quality, while providing a powerful but easy to use user interface.

DigiDeck

Global Audio Control
Control your volume settings and basic Winamp functions from any program using keyboard shortcuts. Be able to multitask without the annoyance of opening multiple windows. This software is especially useful for those who work in a full-screen environment.

SysTrayPlayer (STP)
STP (SysTrayPlay) is a simple MP3 player that runs at the system tray and takes just a little of display space and processor time. It also has an equalizer and a simple playlist editor, plus several unique features you won´t find in other players.

UltraPlayer

VLC Media Player
VLC Media Player is one of those crazy programs that seems to do everything. It runs on a myriad of OSs, can use Winamp 2 skins, works with nearly any video format (even DVDs), and has more features than I can list. It's last version release was awhile ago, but the next one is already underway (as reflected in the release notes).

WhopSee
"WhopSee is a free CD Player with cddbp support. It can be displayed in 3 different 'states' (...). The GUI for WhopSee is completely skinnable. Own skins can be generated with the SkinGenerator that is included in the WhopSee download."

Winamp
Classic player now capable of an awful lot, focus on a pro version.

Windows Media Player (WMP)

Status: being the default, always active.
Xion
Xion is a music player that can handle anything from MP3s to Mod files. The interface of app still feels like it's in its early stages. Many parts of it are not skinnable yet. Nonetheless, the main window/control is impressively skinnable, and can integrate animation and visual effects nicely. Moshi and a few others have already made some nice skins for it.

XMPlay

The Zinf audio player is a simple, but powerful audio player for Linux and Win32. It supports MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, WAV and Audio CD playback, SHOUTcast/Icecast HTTP streaming, RTP streaming, a powerful music browser, theme support and a download manager.
